"Sniper Elite 4 is a smart, strategic shooter that empowers you to make your own path".If you love the idea of setting yourself up in a map and ruining peoples days from the end of your long range rifle then you're probably the scourge of main online shooters and a perfect candidate for Sniper Elite V2. The games other unique selling point is a rather gruesome bullet cam mechanic that follows your shots in slow motion and will quite often enter an x-ray vision mode to show you intimately the damage your perfectly placed shot has caused. You have the ability to set up traps and the game does a good job of alerting you when an unsuspecting guard has blundered into your homemade security systems. The background noise of the war also plays an important role in gameplay as exploding shells can mask the sound of your gunshots and allow you to pick off multiple targets without ever being detected. Ruined buildings and big open spaces give you ample opportunity to find vantage points and hidey holes to get set up in. Slightly iffy story aside, the war torn city of Berlin that acts as the backdrop to the action is a perfect setting for the stealthy, sneaky, snipey fun. It's a bit of a personal gripe that the story took this angle as at the time the USA and Russia were allies and the Cold War wasn't even imagined yet. The war is winding down and the American government are worried that the invading Russians will whisk away the scientists and use the technology against the US.
You play as Lieutenant Karl Fairburne an officer of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) who is tasked with hunting down the German scientists behind the V2 rocket project. It covers the same time period in the same setting but with a whole new narrative. Sniper Elite V2 is in some ways a sequel to Sniper Elite and in someways a reboot of the series. Sniper Elite V2 tells the story of an elite sniper operating at the tail end of World War II trying to ensure that the apparently dastardly Russians don't get their hands on German V2 rocket technology.
